Detailed Summary[]

The opening scene shows a women accidentally rear-ending a truck, triggering the bomb residing in its bed. Meanwhile, the team banters in the bullpen before being called up to the operations room where the news shows the FBI arresting Gavin Knowles and thwarting a terrorist plot in L.A.

They learn that Gavin Knowles is a former marine but with no explosives background. Hetty, with a request from Granger, asks the team to look into what the FBI may have missed.

The team heads to a parking garage where they examine the damaged truck, but they get stonewalled by Ambrose who cites FBI procedure. They meet a familiar face, Nate, however, who is willing to share intelligence.

Callen and Hanna approach an agent who they recognize is straight out of the academy. The new agent allows Callen and Hanna five minutes into the apartment, but before they can enter, Ambrose stops them and requests they file the proper paperwork.

Deeks and Kensi interviews the diner's staff regarding Gavin Knowles and meet Mia Jameson, Knowles' girlfriend. She proclaims that Gavin is innocent and Deeks finds out from the host that Gavin would occasionally use Mia's phone to make calls thus Deeks has Eric lookup all the calls made from Mia's phone.

Eric finds an excuse to leave Nate and Nell alone and once gone, Nate calls out Nell on flirting with him earlier in front of Eric to make Eric jealous.

Deeks and Kensi are at a garage where they find a group of bikers approach. Deeks calls it in to Hetty who reveals that a terrorist group has claimed responsibility for the bombing and another attack is imminent which is quickly being made known by the media.

Callen, Hanna, and Nate approach Ambrose about interviewing Knowles to which Ambrose allows with the contingency that Nate is the only one to interview Knowles as a representative of the joint task force on terrorism. Nate interviews Knowles to which he denies knowing about the bomb, claiming it was planted. Knowles claims that the FBI always had a target on his head and Nate asks why, but they are cut off as Ambrose interrupts the room. Nate, Callen, and Hanna debrief the interview concluding that Ambrose was spooked about something that Knowles got too close to,

Deeks and Kensi head to the bikers garage where they are immediately identified as cops. The pair hear Harold trying to escape and they bring him to interrogation in the boatshed. Deeks reveals that he previously arrested Harold and he's looking at serious consequences if he doesn't provide information. Harold reveals someone's been asking around about a compact bomb but he doesn't specifically know who. Callen Hanna, and Nate conclude that Harold is telling the truth and anyone building a compact bomb is looking to take out someone specific.

Deeks and Kensi go to interview Mia, but find her apartment empty. The two discover that Mia plays the cello and is particularly adept at it as Deeks reveals he grew up playing violin.

Callen and Hanna suspect that Ambrose is holding out on some information and go check out a industrial yard where Callen sets off a chemical bomb when he tests the lock.

Nell reveals that the car was stolen after Gavin's arrest and that Mia created a new identity and is off the grid. Deeks surmises that Mia would not abandon her cello and she probably gets it serviced at the same place. Meanwhile, Nell speaks with Nate once again about flirting with him only when in front of Eric and tries, unconvincingly, to assure Nate that Eric is like a brother and

Deeks and Kensi go to the instrument shop where they learn Mia, who the owner knows by Jessica Evans, gets her cello serviced regularly. The owner is suspicious of their questions, but eventually shows them an older receipt where they get a lead to an address in Bel Air.

Callen and Hanna head to the address where they find a women sunbathing who is house sitting for the Evans family. She reveals that Jessica ran away in high school and was told not to talk about it. They discover a connection to Jessica's past by a man named Rafi Janatpour who played in the youth orchestra together. Rafi was accused of terrorism by the FBI and his case was handled by Ambrose. The team also learn that the host at the diner Deeks and Kensi checked out earlier, Adam Malnick, was involved in Jessica's past as well and that he changed his identity from Zachary Cole to Adam Malnick six years ago, the same time as Jessica became Mia. The team concludes that the two are out for revenge.

The team apprehend Zachary Cole and admits that he just built the bombs. They question Zachary about where Mia is and he explains that Ambrose may as Ambrose is the target. Eric tracks Ambrose but finds that it's encrypted and may take more time. Nell also concludes that the same Mia devoted her life to clearing Rafi's name.

Nate concludes that Mia would want to the FBI to admit wrongdoing. Zachary reveals that it's too much fun proving the FBI wrong though. Nate surmises that the bomb is hidden inside a tape recorder. Eric finds that Ambrose is headed to Verdugo park with Mia and the team intercepts their meet. Hanna takes the bomb and using Kensi's bobby pin, Callen configures it to hold the record button down as the team runs away from the bomb. Mia swears that she didn't know and the team force Ambrose to release Gavin and apologize.
