Detailed Summary[]

Several people are on jet skis riding around in the ocean until a jet skier loses control and lands on deck with a gunshot wound to his chest.

Sam and Callen debate about where Callen ought to live while Dom, Nate, and Kensi discuss discreet behavior leading to a conversation regarding Hetty and her discreet, but constant watch on them. Hetty calls them to the operations room to discuss an upcoming case. She briefs them on the murder of Daniel Su, a defector from North Korea and an electronics engineer who just landed a contract from the Defense Research Project Agency (DARPA) on a lightweight communication system.

Callen and Sam take a look at Daniel Su's residence and find a bloody lamp and Sally Morris' body. Eric elaborates that Sally Morris was Daniel Su's business partner and managed to raise the capital for their startup. Eric ruled out business rivalry and jealous lovers as he researched Su's life more. The team gets the preliminary autopsy report which shows that Daniel Su was fired at a downward trajectory and Su eventually bled out. They conclude that the shooter must be trained as they were aiming for a moving target on a jet ski. After bantering about Callen living in a trailer park, Sam and Callen corroborate the idea of a trained shooter when they visit the scene of the crime and Sam identifies where a sniper would have been to shoot at a downward trajectory with a clean line of sight, a tall ship bobbing in the harbor.

Back in the operations room, Eric uses security camera footage to try and identify the shooter. Sam explains that the shooter would look like another guy going fishing with the rifle in a tackle box. They spot the shooter and trace them to the parking lot where they drive off. Vance informs the team that the shooter is a North Korean woman by the name of Lee Wuan Kai, an assassin with the ability to change up her appearance. Vance also explains that Daniel Su's technology began as a classified project for the North Korean Army before he defected and that knowledge is most likely what Kai is after.

Vance and Hetty catch up and talk a little bit about the past and Vance's relationship to Kai. Meanwhile, with a backlog on the crime scene analysis of Sally Moris' death, Vance calls Abby asking if she could examine some blood splatter. Eric briefs Abby on the overall details and sends over the pictures.

DARPA agent Frank Davis briefs Sam and Callen on what they know about Daniel Su and Sally Morris. Davis explains that Daniel was quite secretive, which sense given his upbringing in North Korea, and not even his wife, Sally Morris, or his brother, Jimmy Su, knew about Daniel's research. However, because Kai doesn't know who Daniel shared his secrets with, she's going after anyone associated with him to cover all the bases.

Callen and Sam talk to Jimmy and his wife, Aimee, until they're interrupted by an assassination attempt by Kai. No one is hit and Sam and Callen try and exchange gunfire with Kai but she escapes. Callen and Sam take Jimmy and Aimee to the boatshed where Kensi explains the situation regarding protective programs and neutralizing Kai. Meanwhile, Eric tracks down Kai on traffic cameras and finds the hotel she's been staying at. As Sam and Callen head to the hotel, Kensi and Nate stay with Jimmy and Aimee. Kensi reads their lips and figures out that Jimmy was the mastermind behind the technology and tells Aimee to keep quite about it.

Vance gets to the hotel first and examines the room she's staying in until Kai calls him. After a brief conversation with Kai, Vance concludes that Kai was calling to explain that she didn't kill Sally Morris. Callen has Eric track the call but lose her finding the phone used on the floor of the hotel gym. Learning this, Dom briefs Vance that there was someone else in the office with Morris leading the team to believe that Sally knew her killer. They believe that Jimmy may have killed Morris after learning of his brother's murder, but they need a confession.

Dom goes in undercover as a cop who arrived on scene to Morris' murder and has information that he wants to be paid off to keep. However, the operation is interrupted by Kai trying to take a shot at Jimmy once more as Eric detects Jimmy's cell phone being tracked. There's an exchange of gunfire, with Kai trying to escape with her car. All the agents aim for the car until it stops, however Kai is not inside. There's copious amounts of blood leading to the conclusion that Kai caught a bullet and would need surgical attention to stay alive.

Abby gets back to the team in regards to the blood splatter and explains that there are two marks where the blood flowed over and around. With this new information, Kensi talks to Aimee once more and gets her to confess to murdering Sally Morris over the business.
